How to wash and care for your lingerie so it lasts
Gentle washing, the right way to dry and how to store padded bras without crushing them. A little care keeps your favourites soft and supportive for longer.

Lingerie works hard. Elastic, lace and soft padding are all delicate, and the way you wash and dry them makes a real difference to how long they stay comfortable. None of this takes long; it's mostly about avoiding a few habits that quietly wear things out.
Always check the care label on each piece first. The tips below are general good practice.
Hand washing (the gentlest option)
- Fill a basin with cool or lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent.
- Soak for around 10 to 15 minutes, then gently press the suds through the fabric. Avoid scrubbing or twisting.
- Rinse in clean, cool water until no soap remains.
- Press out the water with your hands, then roll the piece in a clean towel to absorb the rest. Don't wring it.
If you use a washing machine
- Fasten the hooks so they don't snag other clothes.
- Put bras in a mesh laundry bag to stop straps tangling and cups bending.
- Choose a delicate, cold cycle and a low spin.
- Wash with similar colours, and keep heavy items like jeans and towels out of the load.
Drying without damage
Heat is the biggest enemy of elastic. Skip the tumble dryer and lay bras flat or hang them by the centre (not the straps) in the shade. Strong direct sun can fade colours and weaken fibres over time, so a shaded, airy spot is best.
Storing padded bras
Never fold a padded or moulded cup in half. Instead, stack bras with one cup nested inside the next, or keep them in a drawer where they can lie flat. Panties can be rolled or folded neatly beside them.
Rotate between a few bras rather than wearing the same one two days in a row. Elastic recovers its stretch when it gets a rest.
When it's time to replace
