Most of the sizing questions we're asked on WhatsApp start the same way: "I've always worn a 34, but nothing feels right." Bodies change, brands size differently, and many of us were never shown how to measure properly. The good news is that it takes about two minutes, a soft measuring tape and a mirror.

Short on time? Our Fit Finder does the maths for you and shows the bras that are in stock in your size.

What you'll need

  • A soft, flexible measuring tape (the kind used for tailoring)
  • A light, non-padded bra, or no bra at all
  • A mirror, so you can check the tape stays level at the back

Step 1: measure your band

Wrap the tape snugly around your ribcage, right underneath your bust where a bra band sits. Keep it level all the way around and breathe out normally. Round to the nearest whole inch.

If the number is even, that's your band. If it's odd, add one: 31 inches becomes band 32, 33 becomes 34.

Step 2: measure your bust

Now wrap the tape loosely around the fullest part of your bust, again keeping it level. Don't pull it tight; it should rest on you without squashing.

Step 3: work out your cup

Subtract your band size from your bust measurement. Each inch of difference is one cup size:

1 inchA
2 inchesB
3 inchesC
4 inchesD
5 inchesDD / E

Example: an underbust of 31 inches rounds up to band 32. A bust of 35 inches minus 32 is a 3-inch difference, which is a C cup. Your size is 32C.

How to check the fit when your bra arrives

  • The band should be snug and level, with room to slide two fingers underneath. Start on the loosest hook; you'll move inwards as it gently stretches with wear.
  • The cups should be smooth, with no gaps at the top and no spilling over the edge.
  • The straps should stay put without digging in. Most of the support should come from the band, not your shoulders.
  • The centre between the cups should sit flat against your chest.

A bra that fits well is one you forget you're wearing.

A few honest tips

Measure again every six months or so, and any time your body changes, for example after pregnancy or a change in weight. If you're between sizes, the band matters most: choose the band that feels snug on the loosest hook. And if your cup comes out larger than our band-and-cup sizes cover, message us. We'd rather help you find the right style than have you settle for a poor fit.
